Seek Wisdom First

Proverbs 2:1-6

My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Trust God to Direct Your Steps and Keep You Healthy

Proverbs 3:5-10

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.

Moving Forward With the Basics

The way the Bible is written makes some Scriptures difficult to understand without studying other Scriptures. This is especially true in the Old Testament. Some Scriptures don’t always give a clear meaning on the surface, but require some digging into to discover the intent of what is stated.

Paul admonished Timothy, “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (II Timothy 2:15)

God said, through the prophet Hosea, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge...” (Hosea 4:6) They are destroyed for a lack of knowledge, not because the devil is so great or so powerful that they couldn’t overcome him.

Activating God's Power in Your Body

In order to activate God’s power in our bodies and in our lives, we must speak our faith and act our faith.

One of the biggest deceptions that the enemy has ever perpetrated upon the Body of Christ is, “If we believe in healing, we will be all right.”

It is not enough just to believe in healing. There are thousands of people who die every day who believe in healing! They believe in the miraculous healing power of God. But the enemy has caused them to substitute belief for action.

I was raised in a church that believed in divine healing. It was one of the doctrines of our denomination. When we joined the church, we signed a little card that said we believed in healing. The pastor believed in healing. When that denomination began, it was established upon the belief of the healing power of God and miracles. The reason they had to separate from other churches was because they believed in healing. But in the 18 years that I attended that church, I cannot remember one person being healed there! Isn’t that astounding? To attend a church that would fight over the fact that they believed in divine healing, yet not see anyone receive healing is a shame.

That Amazing Name

On the night of October 11, 2020, I had a dream that left an indelible impression upon me and impacted my faith in the power of the name of Jesus. I will quote from my journal, “I was in a tense situation, held hostage and surrounded by powerful, evil men. I kept pointing my finger at them and saying, ‘In the name of Jesus, come out of him. In the name of Jesus!’ They would freeze or get a strange look on their face, and some fell to the ground. I was amazed at what was happening. Then, finally, the boss showed up and I became a little anxious. Would it work on the boss? I pointed the palms of my hands toward the boss as if to say ‘Stop!’ and said ‘In the name of Jesus Christ.’ And he fell over backward in the dust.”

I awoke from that dream with such a strong faith in that name. I have studied and taught on the power of the name of Jesus. I pray in the name of Jesus. But through that dream, I was made to realize and experience in my very being how that name is, “above every name.” Philippians 2:9-10 (WNT) says, “It is in consequence of this that God has also so highly exalted Him, and has conferred on Him the Name which is supreme above every other, in order that in the Name of JESUS every knee should bow, of beings in Heaven, of those on the earth, and of those in the underworld...”

Supernatural Help by the Spoken Word

The first chapter of Hebrews describes two supernatural ministries that are available to us today: the ministry of Jesus and the ministry of angels. Jesus’ ministry is much greater, but the angels play an important part in our lives.

“But to which of the angels has He ever said: ‘Sit at My right hand, till I make your enemies your footstool’? Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?” (Hebrews 1:13-14)

This verse defines the role of angels. They are ministering spirits. We, being born-again, are the heirs of salvation. We continue now into chapter 2, verse 1: “Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.”

What have we just heard? Angels are ministering spirits sent forth to minister for you.

“For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation...” (Hebrews 2:2-3)

Harness the Power of Your Thoughts

Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

We all know that we should think on good things that are positive and uplifting. Unfortunately, it was easier for Paul to write than for us to practice. The question is, “How can I habitually think good thoughts? I’ve confessed the Word, prayed, and read my Bible but I am still overcome by discouraging and depressing thoughts. I still feel like a failure.” I believe there has been a missing link that will enable us to practice this scripture.

As any gardener knows, you must remove the weeds and prepare the ground before you can grow a good crop. If we are going to have success in our thought life, we must first get rid of the weeds (negative thought patterns). The first step in getting rid of weeds is to be able to identify and recognize what the weeds are. I am convinced that all of us have self-defeating thought patterns that we don’t recognize, consequently they continue to grow. For instance when you make a mistake (perhaps in your checkbook) and the bank tells you that you are overdrawn, what do you say to yourself? What thoughts do you have? Recognize any of these? “I am so stupid!” “What an ignorant thing to do!” “I never do anything right!”

This Time Tomorrow

You may be walking through a “dry place” in your life, perhaps having a difficult time… a time when it seems that all your opportunities have dried up. It appears that your financial needs are not being met and your future looks bleak. You may even feel like your prayers are not being heard. Circumstances rise up against you and you don’t see a way out.

Such were the circumstances in Samaria in 2 Kings 6:24-30: The entire city was in severe famine being surrounded by the armies of the king of Syria who was determined to destroy them. The enemy wanted to take their city and possessions. They could not leave the city to trade or get food from the fields or goods. They were literally starving to death. The enemy was “starving them out.” Have you ever felt that way? Like the enemy was surrounding you and preventing any hope, any answer, any encouragement from reaching you? These people were all waiting to die, without any glimmer of hope that things could possibly change. Even the king of Israel was so distraught that he ripped his clothes upon hearing that a woman had killed and consumed her child out of hunger. There was NOTHING he could do to help!

Created to Have Dominion

In Genesis chapter one, we find the account of creation. Some of the most profound truths in the Bible are in the Book of Genesis, especially the first three chapters. If you miss these, you won’t be able to understand many things in the Bible.

“And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.” (Genesis 1:11)

Notice the fruit tree yields fruit “after his kind.” It didn’t say, “its kind,” but “his kind.” What we have here is the law of double reference, referring to two different things.

It is referring to the natural tree producing after its kind. But because it states after his kind, whose seed is in itself; He is also putting forth a principle here that follows in the line of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation – That God creates after His kind.

Everything produces after its or their kind – whether trees, animals, or mankind. This is what I call the law of Genesis. Words do the same thing. Speak fear-filled words, and they will produce fear. Speak faith-filled words, and they will produce faith. If you talk trouble and sorrow long enough, it will produce that image in you. It won’t happen just because you said it once, but what you speak continually is what will be produced, either faith or fear. What you continue to confess produces that image in you. Words develop images in you more clearly.

Words Change or Establish Circumstances

When it comes to operating in the principles of the Kingdom, Jesus gave us valuable information. In Mark chapter 11, verse 23, He tells us how to remove a mountain of adversity from your life. First He tells us to have faith in God. “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith...”

You will notice that Jesus did not say to the mountain, “You are getting bigger. I will never get over you. You will hinder me the rest of my life.” But this is exactly what many people are saying, not knowing they are establishing the circumstances that rule their life. They are using the very principle that Jesus taught in reverse. They are establishing the adversity in their life, even by their praying. I know, I’ve been there and done that. I don’t want to do that anymore.

Have you ever prayed and said, “Lord, I’ve prayed, but it’s not getting any better, it’s getting worse,” or “I’ll never get over this situation or this circumstance?” This is the exact opposite of what Jesus said to do.

Why Good & Bad Things Happen

Far too many Christians live in guilt and condemnation. “If only I had prayed more. If I was more spiritual, if I had more faith… this would not have happened.” A great number of Christians believe that bad things happen because of one thing… sin. As a result, some Christians judge others when tragedy strikes. “Well, there must have been sin in their life for this to happen!” False religious teachings bring guilt and condemnation, bondage, and finger-pointing judgments. Someone has to be blamed. Sometimes it is God who is blamed for either causing it or allowing it to happen. If not God, then what sin did they commit that brought this on?

“And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?” (John 9:1-2)

Jesus’ disciples believed, as did most others, that someone had to have sinned if this man was born blind. Either his parents committed some grievous sin and their punishment was having a blind child, or this blind man himself had sinned in a previous life and now he was paying for it.

“Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents…” (John 9:3)

The 6000 Year Earth Lease

Why doesn’t God do something? How many times have you heard someone ask that question, imploring an answer to the violence and tragedies in the earth? If God really loves us, why does He allow children to die? If there is a God, why would such a good person die such a horrible death?

These questions point to an intensely misguided supposition that God, being all powerful can do anything. With the emphasis on “power,” the idea that an “all powerful” God would not stop such atrocities is a horrendous thought. But the fact is that God will not violate His Word and He has made a contract that He will not breach. He said, “heaven and earth may pass away but My Word will not pass away.” His integrity is in His Word.

What is this contract that He will not breach? When God created man (male and female), He gave them dominion over the earth. He contracted with them and their job was to watch over the earth, protect it and keep it. The animals were categorized and named. Everything was provided for the success of the earth to “multiply and replenish” under their watchful care.

In essence, God gave the legal right to Adam and Eve. He gave them a “lease” which Dad calls an “earth lease.”
