As I was writing the teaching this month, I was reminded of the first time I read and understood 3 John 1:2.
“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”
I read it from the King James Version just as written above, and the reality that God Himself would desire for me to be healthy and prosper in my body was a revelation. You see I was raised in a denomination that believed in divine healing, but in a strange way. One Sunday we would hear how God is a God of miracles and the next Sunday a visiting minister would tell how God gave him sickness to teach him something. So, did God want us sick or healed? It was confusing at the least, and God is not the author of confusion.
The revelation to me was that God wants me to live in health and prosper in my body, soul and spirit. He is not confused, people are! God wants and desires for us to be whole, so much so that He sent His only Son to bear sickness, disease and pain for us so we don’t have to bear it.
If God desires us to be well and live in health, and we desire to be in health, what could be the problem?
Like the preacher above, we get funny ideas trying to explain things, then they become beliefs and roadblocks preventing us from obtaining the healing and health He has provided. Identifying these roadblocks is the first step in removing them. I pray that the “eyes of your understanding will be enlightened” as you read.
