The Parallel Plane of the Spirit World
“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him.” (Colossians 1:16)
There is another world that exists at this very moment on a parallel plane. It is invisible to the human eye, but just as real as the world we see. This invisible world influences everything that goes on in the earth. As a matter of fact, the earth itself was created from what we cannot see.
“Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” (Hebrews 11:3)
Weymouth’s translation says that “what is seen does not owe its existence to that which is visible.” What is visible to our eyes is only a very small part of what science knows to exist. Imagine the things that exist that our technology can’t detect! One of these days we may actually have instruments that can detect this other world, what we call the “spirit world.”
In this other world are angels, disembodied spirits, fallen angels, and other living creatures that we have never seen (See Revelation 4:6). There are indications that every creature and perhaps every creation has a “double” in the spirit world. There are even horses and chariots of “fire” (II Kings 2:11). And who knows just exactly what it was that Ezekiel saw?
Anyone who says that they only believe what they can see, hasn’t given much thought to our world. We believe in gravity, electricity, and radio waves, and no one argues that they don’t exist. Right now, the room you are sitting in is being bombarded with voices and music. You can’t hear it because you aren’t tuned to the right frequency. Turn on your radio receiver and you will hear the sound that is coming from the invisible sound waves that are inaudible to our ears.
Why would it be so much more difficult to believe that the spirit world exists? We are just tuned in to a different frequency. Our natural ears cannot even hear some sounds that animals can readily hear. It is very possible that all that exists in the unseen realm can be as easily understood as electricity or radio waves.
Where Angels Dwell
Many years ago, my father and I were taking a trip to Tulsa from Arkansas. As we were flying along, I was meditating on the spirit realm when suddenly the Holy Spirit gave me an example of how it operates.
Before we started the engine the propeller was stationary and I could see both blades clearly. However, once the engine was started, I could only see the outline of the propeller. When we were cruising, the propeller was turning so fast that I couldn’t even see it. The Scriptures began to pour into my mind.
“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwelleth in you.” (Romans 8:11)
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
The reason that the propeller was invisible to my eyes was that it was “quick.” It was too fast for me to see. What if the angels are in a plane that is moving much faster than our human eyes can see? Perhaps the atoms that make up the substance of their being are moving so quickly that we cannot see them even though they are present. Maybe they have to slow down to enable us to see them!
Do you know who you are?
The natural habitat for us as spirit beings is the spirit world. We came from that world and will return to it. We have been born into the earth for a plan and purpose. In order to fulfill that purpose, we have been given an earthsuit—a body. This earthsuit slows us down! At the moment of death, we escape this body that has dragged us down and are released into the unseen world where we will see Christ and those who have gone on before.
Near Death Experiences
and Disembodied Spirits
I have been fascinated when studying near death experiences. Some of those who died and were resuscitated reported that upon leaving their body they encountered a “being of light” that emanated perfect love and perfect understanding. Christ was revealed to them in such a way that it changed the way they looked at life. Most of these people were met and comforted by friends and relatives who had died before them.
There were also those who encountered disembodied spirits who were desperately trying to satisfy their cravings and lusts for drugs, alcohol, and murderous thoughts. Because they didn’t have a body, they were tormented by their inability to satisfy their lusts. These disembodied spirits sought to enter into people who had compromised their will through the use of pornography, alcohol, or drugs. By entering the body of a human being they could express themselves in this world.
Suddenly, I was aware of the importance of being healed in the soulish realm. It is with our will that we resist the evil forces of this other world. When we are compromised or weakened in our emotions, we become less likely to be led by the Spirit and more likely to be influenced by the negative. Whether it is negative people or spirits, we need to be strong to resist the wrong influences.
Many of those who are patients in mental institutions have been wounded or weakened in their minds and emotions and as a result are more open to the influence of spirits. Some are even possessed of evil spirits and voice the thoughts and feelings of these unseen evil forces.
It is so very important for us to protect our minds and emotions and strengthen our will. The healthier we are physically and spiritually the more likely we are to hear God’s voice and not the voice of the enemy. Christ was sent to heal the brokenhearted. He wants us to accomplish our purpose on earth. To do so we need to be whole—spirit, soul, and body.
Using Unseen Ability
How do we successfully resist the wrong influence of the spirit world and join forces with the angelic kingdom?
(1) The Word of God
It is quick! When you speak the Word, you release unseen power to change circumstances to conform to God’s will. Choose to speak words of faith and life!
(2) Faith
It is the unseen force with an energy that can move mountains. It is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. What do you believe? Who do you believe? I challenge you to choose to believe the Word is working mightily in and through you! The Scriptures give us insight into how we set God’s laws of the spirit world in motion on earth.
“For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” (Mark 11:23-24 NKJV)
“And the apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith.’ So the Lord said, If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.” (Luke 17:5-6 NKJV)
“And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.” (Matthew 21:22 NKJV)
(3) Imagination
Yes, imagination! You’ve used your imagination to create images and feelings of fear and failure. Choose words and thoughts that will create an image of victory over every situation. A classic example is found in II Kings 6 where Elisha and his servant were surrounded by Syria’s army.
“And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, ‘Alas, my master! What shall we do?’ So he answered, ‘Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’ And Elisha prayed, and said, ‘Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.’ Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”
(II Kings 6:15-17 NKJV)
The servant’s imagination ran wild when he saw the city was completely surrounded and it appeared there was no hope.
Have you ever been there? Well, if we look at the natural realm, it does sometimes look hopeless, but if we could see in the spirit realm, we would be amazed at what is happening.
You see, the weapons of our warfare are not carnal - that is, they are not on the physical level. You will never win without the weapons of the Spirit, because the real battle is not what you see in physical manifestation. The real battle is in the unseen realm where principalities and powers are attempting to rule and reign in darkness and influence the physical world.
But...there are a host of angels, including Michael and his forces who are energized by the spoken, quickening Word of God. The power of the Word affects not only the physical changes in this realm, but gives power to the hosts of heaven to defeat the wicked spirits in heavenly places.
Elisha and his servant’s victory was won through the help of unseen forces, and your victory will come in the same manner.
(4) Prayer of Agreement
If you are up against a hard situation, find someone who is strong in faith and ask them to join with you in agreement. Be certain that they can agree with you. Your agreement should always be on God’s best outcome for the situation. Don’t limit God in how He should work it out! Speak God’s Word in faith, for when you do you are giving angels an assignment.
When you operate in God’s principles, His angels and all His forces can work for you! Psalm 91 is a wonderful Scripture to confess daily. I encourage you to paraphrase it and make it a personal confession.
“I have made the Lord, my refuge, even the Most High, my habitation, and there shall no evil befall me, neither shall any plague come near my dwelling. For He gives His angels charge over me to keep me in all my ways.” (Psalm 91:9-11 Paraphrased)
Psalm 103:20 reveals that the angels hearken to the voice of God’s Word. Make a decision to give voice to His Word daily and empower your angels to work on your behalf.
