Four Steps Necessary to Witness

Having experienced something for yourself
Receiving the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8)
The anointing of the Spirit (Luke 4:18)
Love/Compassion (Romans 5:5)

How to Be a Witness

1. Take Baby Steps
Pass out tracts. Give with a tip/money. No one is offended and usually grateful. Say, “This is for you.” Smile!

2. Establish a Connection
Common interests: children, animals
Listen. But really hear them!
Follow the Holy Spirit

3. Ask If You Can Pray for Them?
If they are agreeable, do it “May I take your hand?” (If it seems right—carefully if you are of the opposite sex)
Ask them to pray to ask Jesus in their heart (Short!)

4. Follow Up (If possible)
Don’t leave babies on the street
Ask for a phone number (but be careful about personal info)
Invite them to a Bible study or to go to church with you (walk into church with them, sit with them, introduce them to others.)
Don’t push people further than they are willing to go!
Follow the Holy Spirit

5. You Don’t Have to Know Everything to Witness, just Jesus!

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19–20 ESV).

Key Witnessing Scriptures

“Truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3 ESV).

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation” (2 Corinthians 5:17–19 ESV).

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved” (Romans 10:9–10 ESV).

Being Born Again Means

Peace with God (Romans 5:1)
Favor with the Father (Romans 5:2)
Joy (Romans 5:3)
Hope (Romans 5:4)
God’s love in you (Romans 5:6–8)
The gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38)
Freedom from shame & condemnation (Romans 5:5; 8:1)
Removal from horrors coming on earth (1 Thes 1:10; 1 Thes 5:9; Romans 5:9)
Escape from hell here & in the afterlife (Luke 16:23)
Passport to Heaven (Mark 16:16)
